Week 10

"Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd

This week i chose the song "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Me and this song, we go way back. I remember being with my dad at the farm when i was little, feeding the cows and this song was playing on the radio. It reminds me of summer time. I definitely have feelings of nostalgia when I hear it. My aunt Collette and I would sing this song at the top of our lungs on our way home from wrestling tournaments when i was in high school. It makes me want to live in Alabama. It is such a jam and in so many movies. Listening to it three times for this blog post was hard to do because I have heard it more than a million times and know every word haha. My favorite part is the beginning when the banjo or guitar  (is what it sounds like, i could be wrong) starts out. Right when you hear that tune you know what song it is and I get a feeling of excitement and feel bad for those around me because they are about to attend my concert. I have to sing along. This song makes me happy whenever i listen to it. It's so catchy and fun. It’s such a classic, you can't help but love it. Lynyrd Skynyrd is the only one that can sing it. I have heard covers by other people and they are never comparable to him

Week 9

"It's Too Late" by Carol King

This week I listened to the song "Its too late" by, Carol King. When i first listened to it i had no idea what it was about. I had to search up the lyrics and follow along with the words to comprehend what it was about. It is about two people who could have something but they were both changing and their connection just died. They tried to make it work but it was too late. Their sparks were gone and they couldn't pretend that they were there anymore. Judging by those words i think that the target audience is young adults. I like the concept and story behind the song, many people can relate to it. It gives off chill vibes. Carols voice is soothing and kind of raspy. Her voice really stands out and is not over powered by the instruments or anything like that. I like her voice. I had never heard of Carol King until I listened to this. It is a song that I would listen to again. I like the meaning and the tune and the song overall. Its one that I could sing along to. I like that we are getting into the songs that are more appealing to us. This song goes along with the genre of music that I like. This class continues to introduce me to new music that broadens my music taste.

Week 8

"I Fall to Pieces" by Patsy Cline

This week I chose the country/pop song by Patsy Cline, "I Fall to Pieces". It is one of Patsy's most popular songs that was on her album "Showcase". It was her first number one country hit. I like this song. When you listen to the lyrics and understand what it is about it makes it so much more interesting. It is about how a girl is in love with a man but he doesn't want them to be together and the girl doesn't understand why. So she falls to pieces every time she sees him and whenever she hears his name. She can't be just his friend, she tries to forget him but she can't. Every time she tries to go our with someone new, he walks by and she falls to pieces.  I think the target audience is girls who can relate to this situation. Girls who have experienced not being wanted by a guy and being heartbroken over and over again. Patsy sings this song with so much class. Her voice is very soothing and easy to listen to. Why it was so popular is because of the story it tells and the classiness of how it is sung. This song and post is my favorite one so far. I am now a Patsy Cline fan.

Week 7

"My Girl" by The Temptations

This week I chose the song "My Girl" by The Temptations. I wanted to do this song because it is on one of my favorite movies, My Girl. Yes, same name haha. If you haven't seen it I recommend watching it right now. Hearing it made me want to go watch the movie again. Its such a sweet song. There are so many different parts to in and instrument changes that makes is such a catchy song that doesn't get boring. I don’t know how to explain how it sounds lol, go listen to it. It has a cool drum beat to start out with then in adds what i think is a guitar, then has trumpets, viloins and harmonies as well.  It makes sense as to why it was so popular when it came out with all of the different sounds and instruments that it has throughout the song. It is unique. It’s simple and down to earth. It’s basically talking about a guy who is in love with a girl and it tells a story of all the things that his girl brings into his life and how she makes him feel. Like "Sunshine on a cloudy day" and then it says how she makes him feel the same as all of the best things in this world. You can't help but be happy and want to sing along when you listen to this song. You will have it memorized so quick. I love this song!!

Week 6

"Every Day" by Buddy Holly

This week I chose to listen to the song, "Every Day" by Buddy Holly. It isn't a song that we listened to in class but I thought I would try something new and choose a different song by someone we were learning about since there wasn't a ton of options this week. This helped me understand who Buddy Holly was a little better. The first thing that sticks out to me about this song is the bells that break away from the rest of the instruments that are played throughout the song. Then it sounds like someone is slapping their knee for percussion. There isn't many instruments used in this song, that gives it an acoustic feel. It isn't a long song being only 2 minutes long, it is easy to listen to the whole thing. The lyrics are about a guy who is patiently waiting for the girl of his dreams to come his way and he isn't going to make the first move. “Everyday, it's a gettin’ closer, Going faster than a roller coaster, Love like yours will surely come my way, (hey, hey, hey).” The lyrics tell a story throughout and it progresses but also repeats some parts which helps the lyrics interact with each other. The target audience is probably teenagers and young adults who are looking for love <3 I enjoyed listening to it, I think the lyrics and the idea behind the song is really cute!

Week 5

"Hey Good Lookin" Hank Williams

This song is one that I would actually consider listening to without being forced to by this class. I am a huge fan of old country music. I vaguely remember being little and hearing this song play in my grandmas car. She likes Hank Williams and Hank Williams Jr. My favorite genre of music is country so this was a good choice for me. This song is the very beginning of country music and it is interesting to see how much the genre has changed from when this song was written to what it is now. This song brings emotions of love and the feelings you get when you like someone. The lyrics are clever and they all fit together to tell a story of a guy telling a girl he wants to spend all of his time with her. He is showing his affection and says that he wants her and only her and he is going to write her name on every page of his date book, and that is cute! The target audience is probably more towards young adults and teenagers because it has a young feeling to it. It talks about an old truck and listening to music and soda, things that teenagers are all about. I think it is such a cute song all together. There is nothing that i don’t like about it and the more I listened to it and really focused on what it was saying made me like it even more when I understood what it was about.

Week 4

"In the Mood" by Glenn Miller

What surprised me about this song is that when I first listened to it I immediately knew that I have heard it before. With the songs that we have listened to up until now I had never really heard any of them before. I immediately made a connection with this song because it reminded me of the movies that I would watch when I was a kid. I'm pretty sure this song is in the Parent Trap and others at some point, or that is what it reminded me of. This connection will help me remember it for the next Exam. I like all of the instruments that are used, the trumpets and saxophones that are mainly used. I especially like how the beginning sounds. That is my favorite part of this song. Songs that don't have lyrics are harder for me to listen to, that is the only thing that I don't like about it. I'm not really sure of the exact meaning of this song but the Title “In the Mood” is a risky title but the sounds sounds very innocent. This song is very easy to listen to and all throughout it repeats itself the right amount of times and also adds contrast all throughout which doesn’t allow you to get bored when you listen to the whole thing.

Week 10
